What a Saviour - by Ted Lang

The prophecy in Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given.." is described as fulfilled in the gospel account of Matthew. (Matthew 1:21-23)
"A child is born",  illustrates the humanity of Christ. At his birth he was named Jesus. a name he took through all his life. It was often associated with his home town. On the cross he was literally described as "Jesus of Nazareth". As man he died, "to save His people from their sins".

"A son is given", speaks of the same person but in this expression we can hear the sound of John 3:16. It refers to the divinity or deity of Christ. Matthew says a virgin will bear a son "and they shall call his name 'Immanuel' which is translated, 'God with us.'". God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.

"Man of sorrows.”

What a name. For the Son of God who came

Ruined sinners to reclaim! Hallelujah! What a Saviour!
