By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle.6 Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.

Hebrews 5 says
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him
We can now begin where Jesus said it was finished. His finishing is our beginning. And now we learn also to obey not to produce anything through works, but to serve Him.

From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." (John 19:25-27)

Read MoreSince you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand. Col 3:1
What you set your sights on, what you look at and focus on and give time to effects the light of your life. Jesus said that your eyes are like a window for your body. Paul says to set your sights on the realities of heaven.
These two ideas should help us to focus on Christ because when our thinking and actions and reactions are aligned with the realities of heaven, it is like our body is full of light (Mt 6:22). This is a constant mandate for us as disciples of Jesus. And we are not alone for Jesus said:
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you…” Jn 14:26
The Good News is that in following Jesus, we are not alone – we set our sights on Jesus and the Holy Spirit will help us to live this new life, a life full of the light of Christ, a light to the world.
Over the next three weeks, we will look at aspects of the Good News for our lives today – so let us set our sights then on the realities of heaven.
