Life is crazy - by Laura Duke
Life is crazy sometimes, right? We go through seasons when things seem fairly standard and not much changes, and then there are times when it feels like everything is shifting around you continually. Every time you try to make a decision or a plan, something changes and you're back where you started with no idea what's going on, how to move forward, or even whether it's worth trying to make any plans or decisions at all - just to let life happen around you!
Sometimes the chaos is of our own making and other times it seems to simply happen to us (ie, COVID...).
Regardless of the source of the chaos around you, I just want to encourage you to 'Build your house upon the rock' (Matthew 7:24-27). The only way we can survive the chaos of the storm around us is to build our life upon the foundation of Jesus Christ and his teachings.
I've never actually built a house, but I think it must be a whole lot easier when the weather is sunny. But who wants to spend a beautiful sunny day building a house? Wouldn't you rather go for a picnic or head to the beach or something? I think the same goes for building our lives on Jesus. When things are going well, we get distracted by all the wonderful things that life has to offer. When the storm comes, we realise we haven't built a house to shelter in.
It's not exactly the same, because we know that we can ALWAYS find shelter in Christ, but I think the lesson still applies. It's important to spend time building our house and preparing for the storm (reading and studying the Bible regularly and seeking relationship with Jesus). I know I need to be reminded of that quite frequently. Maybe you do too.
I pray that we can all put a little extra time and energy this week into building our metaphorical houses.
