I am - by Bec Bonython

Have you ever noticed that those who have a favourite sporting team are sometimes just a little bias? Their team can do no wrong! They think the umpire is against their team on every call that doesn’t go their way. They “rationally” talk off the stupid things the team has done, and talk up the trivial things the team has done well. It’s a universal thing!

Whereas, those who don’t even like sport, think – what’s the big deal! Who cares! I don’t even want to listen to them talk about sport!

If we were truly honest with ourselves, we show favouritism towards the people we like or have said kind things to us, or who worked co-operatively with us, or think similarly to us.

To those who aren’t nice to us, or have it in for us, or disagree with us, we tend not to show much compassion, patience or kindness. We may even get some enjoyment when they mess up or stumble!

Yet – we don’t like it when it happens to us! We get annoyed when we see others blatantly showing favouritism or are getting away with things because they “know the boss” or are “flavour of the month.” It’s just not fair! It’s just not right!

Psalm 11:7 – For the Lord is righteous, He loves justice; the upright will see His face.

Jeremiah 17:10 - I, the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward people according to their conduct, according to what they deserve.

Psalms 25:8 - Good and upright is the Lord; therefore, He instructs sinners in His ways. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of His covenant.

Aren’t you glad that God is a just God!

Aren’t you glad God doesn’t have favourites or shows bias.

Aren’t you glad that just because I’m a new Christian and don’t know much of the bible, and you’ve been a Christian for 20+ years know more than me, that He still shows His love and compassion and patience to all of us.

Aren’t you glad that we don’t have to prove anything to others, but that it is only God who rewards our conduct and actions.

Aren’t you glad that it is God who searches our hearts and motives; not our friends, family or neighbours.

Aren’t you glad that we stand before God in heaven for what we have done and it is the Just and Righteous God who judges me.

...I know I am.
