Hope - by Bec Bonython

Hope in the midst of our uncontrollable situations

In a verbal command the Lord, in Genesis 1:9 says to ALL the water on the face of the earth, to be gathered in one place, so dry land could be formed. These word, “gathered into one”, is the Hebrew word for hope.

Before the foundations of the world, God had established hope for us. The water had to surrender to the Lord’s command in order for hope to occur.

You know we can’t control water. Last week, there was a burst water main on Fullarton Road. It flooded Highgate Primary school and SA Water could not control the water. The news showed it gushing into the reception/Yr 1 class and into the gym. The news reporter said that SA Water had to just let it go and flood the school - even they couldn't control it.

We can’t even control a glass of water that spills on our dining table. Yet, by God’s spoken word He controlled the uncontrollable. AND in doing so God created land and water, which meant life and growth and rejuvenation and beauty and perfection… HOPE

To allow God to fill our hearts with hope, we must relinquish control. As we surrender to the Lord, His promise to us is that He will control our uncontrollable.

He is on the throne and in command of all things. Our job is to trust Him. We just need to surrender.

The promise is this: when we do surrender and allow God to control our uncontrollable - we will find growth and rejuvenation and beauty and perfection in Him. We will find hope.
