Freedom in Him - by Laura Duke

Exodus 2:1-10.

When reading the Bible, I think it's always important to look for how the section I'm reading points to Jesus.

When Pharaoh rules that the baby Israelite boys should all die, he says they should be thrown into the Nile River. For the Israelite people at the time, that river would represent death. So, when Moses' mother later places Moses in a basket and sets him floating on that very same river, I think that creates a beautiful picture of her faith and complete trust in God. She places her son in the waters of death, but trusts that God is in control. And He is! God plans for Pharaoh's daughter to come along at the right time to find him and bring him out of the waters into life. When Moses grows older, he rescues God's people out of slavery and death in Egypt.

The story of Moses so closely reflects the story of Jesus. Jesus went down into death itself, experiencing death completely on the cross. But Jesus was raised out of death and into eternal life with God, the Father, and set everyone who follows Him free from the slavery to sin and death that we experience in this world, bringing us into complete freedom In Him!
