Trust - by Jeremy Duke
“But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand. Psalm 31:14-15 ESV
There is a day coming for all of us when we will receive bad news about the short duration of our own lives. It might be a decline in health, a loss of something you used to be able to do, or a shocking diagnosis.
As a Christian, we should not hide from this truth or try to ignore it like most of the world today. Instead, we should be preparing our hearts for that day, so when it comes we may say along with the psalmist: my times are in your hands. What a God-glorifying response!
This is the ultimate test of what we put our trust in. One of the focuses of my morning devotion times with God is this: Deepening my relationship with God so that at the end on my deathbed or on my cross, when all else is gone, he is my sustenance and firm foundation.
What are you doing today to prepare your heart so that on your deathbed - when all of this world suddenly has no place anymore, and God is all that remains - you might say: “I trust in you O Lord, You are my God. My times are in your hands”?
