Let it be you - by Elizabeth Reynolds

We have a God who is a ‘gentleman’ in many ways. He knocks. He doesn’t barge in, but instead, He knocks and waits for us to answer the door. He does not barge into our lives. He comes when we invite Him. God can do all things – there are no limits to His power, but at the same time, He imposes limits on Himself. And this ‘waiting for human response’ seems to be one of them. Another is that His kingdom will only rule on earth where it is invited. His power and strength is not in question here, God has chosen to confine Himself to working through people. He has chosen to include us in the workings of His kingdom, which is so beautiful. It is yet another testimony to His love for us and His desire for relationship with us.

While chaos, evil, sin still abounds on the earth, God will find someone through whom He can work and when Jesus commands us to pray “Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” He is saying to us, “Let that person be you.”

Put your hand up. You don’t have to be the best. Just be available. You don’t have to get it right all the time. Just be available. You don’t have to be perfect. Just be available. Show up.

What do you need to ‘show up’ for? When church is on – show up. When a prayer meeting is on – show up. When music practice is on – show up. When the soup kitchen needs an extra hand, show up. When your friend needs a listening ear – show up. Be available.

My message is not to be at every single event and answer everybody’s needs – you would burn out. My message is – answer the knock. Be available to let God work through you and bring the kingdom to this world. God ‘showed up’ for you, gave everything to demonstrate His love for you. Let’s show up for Him.

God wants people to work through. Let it be you.
